The ultimate spring clean… Out with the old!

25th June 201831st July 2018

This spring/summer I decided to shake things up a little with a spring clean. I was out with the old and in with the new like never before.

I often wondered how some women looks so well put together. Really nice outfits, accessories, hair and makeup. I think more than ever, some of the best dressed women I’ve seen are no longer in the magazines. Girls (and boys) are going for more, and looking amazing.

So this spring, I did a massive clearout of my wardrobe. I decided that there was no way I could really update my style if I was essentially just remixing the same clothes. Something had to give. Thanks to some tough love from my other half, and a lot of soul searching, I managed to clear out a ton of old clothes, and shoes, that will no doubt be going to a better home.

They say that you wear 20% of your wardrobe 80% of the time, and 80% of your wardrobe only 20% of the time. I think this is so very true. On a day to day basis, I never feel more comfortable than in a t-shirt and jeans. Jazz this up with a pair of heels/boot and I’m out for the evening. Trainers or sandals, and I’m good to go for brunch or out shopping. It’s pretty safe to say that sticking within this comfort zone has led to a partial lack of imagination/effort for trying new things.

Holding onto clothes bought 10 years or more ago was also doing nothing for my confidence either. I wasn’t wearing them, and if anything, they were just causing clutter. Having too much stuff also made getting dressed in the morning much longer than necessary. And in the end, I often found myself reverting back to my comfort zone style of t-shirt and jeans anyway.

After living with less, I honestly feel so much lighter and happier. Less clutter. Less stuff to troll through only to inevitably come up with the same outfit. Less unnecessary decision making about stuff I wouldn’t wear anyway.

All in all, I love the classic t-shirt and jeans. These are my faves, but I feel so much clearer now about what I’m comfortable to wear, and what I’m not. Also, I now have the headspace and the room to try a few new looks. Which is so exciting! Spring/Summer Capsule wardrobe is definitely on the way.
