This past weekend, I took a trip down to Ascot to watch the races with a group of friends.
A day out at the races used to be something I thought only other people did. It looked expensive and far away. I didn’t know much about horse-racing either. But, what I did know and love about the day was the fashion. Amazing dresses, hats and suits, and usually amazing weather. What’s not to enjoy about that!
Now having attended for the second time, this event is fast becoming a summer favourite. Due to an overwhelming period of busy-ness this summer, and no time to shop. I had exactly 24 hours to find an outfit. An hour before midnight I was online, ordered and had crossed fingers for the most part that next-day-delivery was my best chance for survival.
And it seems like I was onto a winner. Of the two options purchased this yellow dress fitted really well, was a lovely light material and really flattering to wear. It’s often hard to find the right length dress when your not very tall, but I thought the length was really flattering and the open back detail was just enough to keep it classy and airy throughout the hot summers day.
Teamed with a pair of nude/grey Karen Millen pumps and a grey John Lewis fascinator I was ready for the races. All in all, I guess I kept it very simple. But thankfully, simple paid off. With minimal jewellery and relatively muted accessories, this was a really easy look to wear.
All in all it was a great day out, and a really fun day to enjoy with friends. There are many enclosure areas, for which you can purchase tickets. Though the dress code varies slightly between them all, everyone makes a real effort. From big to small fascinators, bold structured dresses, to more sleek numbers, open toe pumps to ascot flats, and of course the men in their top hats and tails, everyone looked amazing, and I think all of the build up and dressing up contributed to the whole buzz of the day, which makes attending Royal Ascot so much fun.
